Food Friday: Jezebel Brownies!!

So I have a couple of thoughts for the day...

1. My husband and I always attend an event in March titled "Empty Bowls." It's hosted by a local church and for $12 we can pick out a handmade soup bowl. The proceeds benefit a number of soup kitchens in our local area. When we've gotten our bowls, we enter a line to get our ladle of vegetable soup, a piece of fried cornbread, and our choice of lemonade, tea, or coffee. Our five year old went with us last week and asked me this morning, "Before it was empty bowls, was it full bowls?" I hope in a number of years (I REALLY don't want to give my age away) that he won't have to see the hunger that goes on in the world. $12 might seem like a lot, but when you think about it, that might only feed one person for one day. (Not a lot of info on the web regarding this, I will dig deeper for an answer.) Jesus gave us his thoughts on this very thing...

Matthew 25:31-46 (ESV)

"34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36  I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’"

So by helping the poor and hungry, it's like we're doing that same thing for Christ. Anyone want to share a table with us next year? Time for the second thought.

2. And here's the fun part. I got to make dinner for the church college group last night and boy did I love it! My hubbie helped out by making them taquitos, while I prepped and the finished the queso dip, and I made what we refer to as "Jezebel Brownies" because I don't like the original name. I first saw them as a post on facebook from the blog www.thelondoner.me She has really nice pictures on her blog, but since the recipe is so easy, I've just have it memorized. Hope you like them as much as we do!
