1. My husband and I always attend an event in March titled "Empty Bowls." It's hosted by a local church and for $12 we can pick out a handmade soup bowl. The proceeds benefit a number of soup kitchens in our local area. When we've gotten our bowls, we enter a line to get our ladle of vegetable soup, a piece of fried cornbread, and our choice of lemonade, tea, or coffee. Our five year old went with us last week and asked me this morning, "Before it was empty bowls, was it full bowls?" I hope in a number of years (I REALLY don't want to give my age away) that he won't have to see the hunger that goes on in the world. $12 might seem like a lot, but when you think about it, that might only feed one person for one day. (Not a lot of info on the web regarding this, I will dig deeper for an answer.) Jesus gave us his thoughts on this very thing...
Matthew 25:31-46 (ESV)
So by helping the poor and hungry, it's like we're doing that same thing for Christ. Anyone want to share a table with us next year? Time for the second thought.
2. And here's the fun part. I got to make dinner for the church college group last night and boy did I love it! My hubbie helped out by making them taquitos, while I prepped and the finished the queso dip, and I made what we refer to as "Jezebel Brownies" because I don't like the original name. I first saw them as a post on facebook from the blog www.thelondoner.me She has really nice pictures on her blog, but since the recipe is so easy, I've just have it memorized. Hope you like them as much as we do!
Jezebel Brownies
1 Chocolate Chip Cookie package mix
1 Box Brownie mix (I prefer fudgey ones)
1 Sleeve (Box, canister, whatever they're called) of chocolate sandwich cookies
Mix Cookies according to package and spread in the bottom of a greased 8X8 pan
Place one layer of chocolate sandwich cookies on top
Mix brownies according to package and proceed to pour on top of oreo layer.
Bake in a 350 Degree oven for 25-30 minutes
Take out and cool for 10, cut and serve with ice cream
ENJOY!
